Ismenus (Ismenos)

Page history last edited by Nick Schreiber 13 years ago
  • The eastern stream flowing around Thebes, Greece
  • Rises from a fountain, which was called Melia
  • The river was formally known as Cadmus or the Ladon
  • As the myth goes, it was named after Ismenus, son of Amphion and Niobe, who was struck by an arrow of Apollo and leaped into the river formally named Ladon. The River was then named after him
  • Some myths name him as the son of Apollo and Melia
  • Others say he was the son of Asopus and Metope
